"Nature is rapidly becoming a model to emulate"

Discussion on technology and how it could be used to assist spiritual development and NOT enslave us. This includes technology that will help us live in harmony with Nature (e.g.: "Lifter" technologies that could replace the petrol driven engine). Also, discussion of past and current scientific thought so that gems are not buried in the sands of time, and spiritual progress through science is achieved.

"Scientists to study termites for building tips" (the emphasis in bold is mine)
http://news.com.com/2100-7337_3-5379535.html
The termites build freestanding mounds that contain an intricate network of tunnels and air conduits that control temperature, moisture and air quality.

The structure of the mounds is fairly sophisticated, researchers note. The mounds capture wind to create internal air flow, functioning like lungs do in organisms and helping the termites live in a fairly stable environment.

The idea behind the research is to see if structural engineers can come up with ways to build passive air systems, cut down on energy consumption or in general optimize the efficiency of large buildings.

In many tech fields, nature is rapidly becoming a model to emulate. Some materials companies, for instance, believe that they can one day build chips through self-replicating chemical reactions, similar to how abalones build their shells.
BTW, I don't like newscrapers -- they are obstructing the horizon and causing (micro-)climate anomalies.

Learning from Nature: BMW in the German Pavilion at EXPO 2005in Japan

-The motto of the World Exhibition: "Nature's Wisdom" - Natural models providing solutions as role models for technical innovations.

Some 120 countries and organizations will be focusing on nature and the associated opportunities for technical developments at this year's world exhibition being held in Aichi, Japan. The EXPO - open from 25 March to 25 September 2005 - will encourage visitors to understand the principles of nature through modern perspectives. It will also persuade people to integrate them within their daily lives and promote harmonious coexistence between nature and technology.

Thanks, Robanan! Here's a good one to car manufacturers: remove wheels. Nature never produced wheels.

I think that it would be the last thing they would ever come to think about. I wonder what are they really trying to find? Whatever they want, they must need it very badly since This idea (of taking nature as an example) exists now for a long time something else must have inspired them to put so much effort on this topic. Money? Whose Money? I think it's just empty promises in order to let people think that the specialists are really working on it.

Of course, money. As I'm sure people on this board are aware, the vogue has been to label something natural in order to increase sales, irrespective of the actual products' constituents / ingredients. Do you know that the US Federal Food and Drug Administration and its worldwide equivalents do not regulate so-called "natural products" coming from NutraLife, HerbaLife, the various blue/green algae products, etc. I have been told that by a friend (and verified it online), and was downright amazed by how our society "works" in this case, too -- hence the many scams, e.g. artificial ingredients found in many "natural" products. Given the incentive "natural" corporations have, when there is no control from above, what do we think happens? :(

What is more, a product having provably all-natural ingredients is not a sufficient condition for it being natural, because its ingredients can be in combinations that are ineffective and are even harmful. The situation is further complicated by ingredients produced artificially but silently marketed as their really natural counterparts (obtained from natural sources and living organisms). Sadly, the vast majority of people does not realize those facts.
