Private messaging disabled

Post: # 10056Post ptex »

Dear friends,
A new security warning has just been issued regarding the forum software version we're using that reports a vulnerability in the "Private Messaging system".
As such, we've just disabled the private messaging system in our forum until the problem is solved.
Our apologies for any inconvenience.

Hi ptex,

I believe that Vesko has fixed this?

Thank you for being watchful and security minded !

The problem hasn't been fixed yet, but I've been working on it.

Please bear a few days more. I expect this to be fixed soon. Meanwhile you can always use the e-mail feature but know that your e-mail will be revealed to the person you're trying to contact (as the address to reply to) Alternatively use the chat feature... it practically was never used.

Please contact me if you'd like to find alternative solutions to the ones I suggest here.

I'm curious ptex, what's the problem with security in the PM system?

Surely if the lockout for spammers joining the site [which works really well for a phpBB system] then it'd be tough to abuse the PM system? :?

Do you know the stats on "spambots" crawling the site?

Anyway, keep up the awesome effort - it's much appreciated!
Always remember you're unique, like everybody else.
