Re: earthquake-historic data
Interesting.
I follow http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ ... day-M5.xml RSS.. Shows 5.0+ earthquakes around the globe.
Last weeks have been really intense. Tahiti, Japan and Chile at same day, Turkey. Also seen more 6.0+ around the globe than usual.
I stopped counting aftershocks from Chile's 8.8 quake after a week approximately. I think I was at 100 or something. They are still occuring. Must be at 150+ at least. Note that this is only 5.0+ I'm monitoring. I do not know how many aftershocks a major earthquake generally produces.
I suppose the energy is far more important than number though.

Re: earthquake-historic data
hum..... we just experienced a small earthquake in Quebec this week... We had one a few years before. It is extremely rare in Quebec to have earthquakes, and there seems to have more earthquakes.
However, I think the increase is normal and is not evidences for trouble. Between 1940-1945, there has been more earthquakes than 2000-2005.

Re: earthquake-historic data
as im sure all are aware of by now, a very strong earthquake close to japan...8.9 [logarithmic, so pretty strong!] some say it was 8.8, or 8.9....
..tsunami warning for n marianas/guam/hawaii, pacific n/c/s america, perhaps elsewhere idk.
there was also a nuclear plant at risk in n. japan, as result of the quake.

solar flare activity could it be related to earthquake activity? [afterthought]: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2007AGUSMIN33A..03J [so, no clear connection is their conclusion anyhow]

Re: earthquake-historic data
I just read that the scientists estimate that the earth axis has tilted 4inches because of this quake.. All best wishes to everyone living close the area. Can't really think of anything more to say at the moment..
Re: earthquake-historic data
