Who made this picture?
Re: Easter Island and the statues of Thiaooubians
these appear to be the moai's hands placed in the frontal midline, maybe just above pubic bone [given what seem to be carved representation of ?loincloth]. as a guess, could be a 'mudra' [hand position dur. meditation] for what we might call 'lower dan tien' [of course theres other interpretations probably] that is close to where pubic ridge/bone would be. you can see palms, with thumbs curving out naturally, to create a downward pointing 'triangle'. however some do have a belt or loincloth, called 'hami' [hands are often described as meeting at the hips, but when looking you can see its right in the front].
it may be from thor heyerdahl's book? I believe ive seen this photo, it appears to be older from looks of it. Ive read today, from http://www.ancient-wisdom.co.uk/top50stones.htm [#17] that this moai is actually none other than el gigante. [vs the unfinished, lying down 400+ tonne statue].
heres another view, apppears to be same one: newer

Easter Island Statue excavations
A friend sent me a link to the excavation work currently being done on the statues on Easter Island.
Many of the statues appear to be much more than heads and some of them have quite extensive petroglyphs cared into them
