Anti-spam protection for MSN / Windows Messenger addresses

Post: # 7657Post VeskoP »

Forum member profiles have a field named "MSN Messenger", where one can fill in one's user name for this instant messaging (chat) service. Because those user names are actually email addresses and the forum member profiles can be viewed by anyone going to the forum member list web page currently located at http://www.goldenplanetforum.com/memberlist.php, automated spam bots that crawl the Internet and collect email addresses to send spam to can collect those, too.

The just implemented solution is the obfuscation of those addresses, so that they are rendered useless to spambots, but can be easily translated to actual addresses by humans. A simple instruction how to do so is supplied on the profile web page. The instruction is very difficult to be comprehended by a spam bot.

Example:
MSN Messenger: examplenameitisbadtospamexampledomain.com (please change 'itisbadtospam' to '@' to get the real address)
"Man exists physically for the sole purpose to develop spiritually" -- let us all really remember this when we think what to do next.
